He sees Marco Schwarz in a better starting position, said the Norwegian on Sunday in Alta Badia. Compared to defending champion Marco Odermatt, the Austrian has the advantage of a fourth discipline, the slalom. “That makes him the favorite. He has eleven or twelve more races,” emphasized Kilde. The speed specialist took himself out of the race for the big crystal ball.
“Black will be hard to beat”
“Marco Odermatt is always my top favorite, but I think Marco Schwarz will be really hard to beat this year,” said Kilde. He had previously finished 13th in the first giant slalom on the Gran Risa slope, but he will forego the second one 24 hours later on Monday. “It’s going to be really difficult this year, to be honest,” he said, commenting on the strain due to the busy schedule.
Schwarz finished fourth on Sunday, achieving his best Alta-Badia result in a giant slalom. Nevertheless, he was very upset by his standards about his regression in the second round. “I’m pretty shitty today, I have to say,” said the Carinthian. “Especially on the steep slope, I let the hits and the restlessness get me out of it a little bit. Then I got a clean sweep.” But by the time he eats, his anger will go away again.
72 points behind Odermatt
As far as his fitness level is concerned, he is still doing “very well,” said Schwarz. “I noticed it more in the first run. When I exited the steep slope I noticed it a bit in my thighs. But in the second run it was back to normal.” For Schwarz, Odermatt and Kilde, including Val Gardena, it was the fourth race on the fourth day in a row. In the overall ranking, the Austrian is currently second, 72 points behind Odermatt, while Kilde is third, 176 points behind.
