There is great interest in the tickets for the gala night of sports on February 9, 2024, which will obviously be left under the Christmas tree here and there as gifts tomorrow. The traditional ball in the Brucknerhaus, which has been organized by the OÖNachrichten and the city of Linz since the 1970s and is presented again this year by the Oberbank, is a real draw as a fine mixture of sport and music.
This is probably also due to the prominent guests from business, politics and, above all, sport. In addition to gala guest Franz Klemm, who was recently celebrated in a big way for his 70th birthday, a prominent Carinthian compatriot has now also confirmed his attendance: Matthias Mayer, who achieved the rare feat of winning a gold medal at three Olympic Games in a row – 2014 (Sochi/Downhill), 2018 (Pyeongchang/Super-G), 2022 (Beijing/Super-G). In Beijing there was also a bronze medal in the downhill.
The gala visit was arranged by Hans Pum, the former sports director of the ÖSV. The Mühlviertler is a “fan” of the 33-year-old Mayer, who completely unexpectedly ended his career a year ago after strong training in Bormio. “Matthias is currently involved in many young talent projects and he’s doing a great job,” says Pum. Mayer is also a “mentor” in the ÖSV speed team, and last week he was also introduced as an ambassador for the 2025 World Ski Championships in Saalbach.
The musical midnight performance of the gala will be performed by Lemo (“Tu es”), while the Austropop cover band “Hoamspü” will set the tone in the Middle Hall. Song contest participant Nathan Trent is in action at the opening.
Tickets for the gala is available in the Linzer Brucknerhaus as well as online at brucknerhaus.at and in all Ö-Ticket sales outlets.
