Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, who won the Davis Cup and the ATP Cup with the national team, positively assessed the tournaments, Sport-Express reported on December 5.
“I can only speak for myself. These are both great tournaments because the ATP Cup was the first one we won as a team. Of course, the Davis Cup has a longer history, but we do not know what will happen next. I don’t want to say anything bad or too good about this competition. But I think they are the coolest in tennis, they really matter. I’m really happy that Russia managed to win both of these team tournaments. It’s cool, ”Medvedev said during a press conference.
The tennis player also noticed that he was more happy for the team than for himself. He called her amazing and admitted that he was happy to be part of such a team and to be able to win with her.
“It was quite an amazing time because it is not easy to come here at the end of the season. It was the best time in my career, ”added Medvedev.
The Russian national team won the Davis Cup for the third time. In the first meeting of the final, Russian Andrei Rublev beat the representative of Croatia Bornu Goyo with a score of 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 5). In the second meeting of the final against Croat Marina Chilicha, Daniil Medvedev came out and won with a score of 7: 6 (9: 7), 6: 2. The meeting lasted 1 hour and 28 minutes.
The Russians reached the Davis Cup final, defeating the German team on December 4 – Rublev beat Dominik Kepfer, and Medvedev defeated Jan-Lennard Struff.
The Russian team includes Daniil Medvedev, Andrei Rublev, Aslan Karatsev, Karen Khachanov, as well as Evgeny Donskoy and Roman Safiullin. Due to the sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency, the national team competes in the tournament without a national flag and anthem.
Olympic champion in speed skating, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova congratulated the winners’ team. She noted that the Davis Cup is the only tournament when everyone is rooting for the country.
