With the outcome of the survey announced on St. Stephen’s Day by the Polish news agency PAP, the 36-year-old drew level with the Swiss record winner Roger Federer in the 66-year history of the election. Since 2004, someone from the tennis camp has prevailed 13 times; in 2022 it was the Polish Iga Swiatek. This time Max Verstappen and Armand Duplantis took the places.
“Djoker” won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments
21 European news agencies – including the APA – Austria Press Agency – took part in the election. Djokovic left Formula 1 world champion Verstappen (NED) behind by 28 points and pole vault world champion Dupantis (SWE) by as much as 92 points. Football star Erling Haaland (NOR) came fourth, another six points behind. The “Djoker” won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year as well as the ATP Finals; at Wimbledon he was only defeated in the final. The Spanish winner there, Carlos Alcaraz, only ended up in 13th place in the PAP election. There are no Austrians in the top 25.
