Barca are facing major financial problems and are likely to sell Coutinho. If this does not happen, it could once again become a cost factor.
The Spanish top club FC Barcelona could be forced to let the former king transfer Philippe Coutinho come to only a few appearances in the next season.
As the as reported, the Brazilian is only ten missions away from costing the highly indebted Catalans another 20 million euros. Should he complete this, a clause in Coutinho’s contract, which Barca negotiated with Liverpool FC in 2018, apparently applies.
Barcelona: Sale of Coutinho would mean an exorbitant transfer loss
The Blaugrana would like to sell the 29-year-old this summer – a farewell, which turns out to be difficult. One would not only have to accept an exorbitant transfer minus, since the value of Coutinho is currently estimated at only 30 million euros. But the Brazilian would probably have to agree to huge wage cuts at his new club, with the Catalans he is currently earning around 20 million euros per year.
Coutinho came to Camp Nou in 2018 to replace his compatriot Neymar and has cost Barcelona around 135 million euros so far. The Königstransfer was never able to fill in the superstar’s footsteps and between 2019 and 2020 was even loaned to Bayern Munich for a year. The 29-year-old’s contract in Barcelona runs until 2023.
