The Argentine National TeamWorld Champion in Qatar 2022, was recognized for the second consecutive year as “Team of the year” by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS).
La “Scaloneta” finished in first place with 666 points, in the vote in which 405 journalists from 107 countries participated. In second place, with 440 points, was Manchester City, which in 2023 established itself in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, European Super Cup and Club World Cup.
Third position (308 points) went to the Spanish women’s soccer team, champion of the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
On an individual level, the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic was chosen as “Sportsman of the year”. The number one in the world ranking, who in 2023 won the titles in Adelaide, Australian Open, Roland Garros, Cincinnati, US Open, Paris Masters 1000 and the ATP Finals, added a total of 616 points and surpassed the Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis (335 points) and the Argentine Lionel Messi (277), who completed the podium.
American gymnast Simone Biles was recognized as “Female Athlete of the Year”followed by the Kenyan middle distance runner Faith Kipyegon and the Spanish soccer player Aitana Bonmati.
