FC Blau-Weiß Linz is back from the winter break: After the performance tests in the past few days, coach Gerald Scheiblehner’s team completed their first session on the pitch this afternoon on the artificial turf in Auwiesen.
25 players took part in the first training session of the new year at 3 p.m. sharp – only Alem Pasic was missing due to illness. That’s what striker Ronivaldo was used for: After tearing ligaments in his ankle, it was not foreseeable that the attacker’s recovery would go so well and that he would be back on the pitch at the start of training.
The Brazilian didn’t miss the opportunity to take part in at least parts of the training – and despite the bitter cold and sub-zero temperatures, he was beaming while wearing shorts. “He didn’t fly to Brazil in the winter and stayed at home, so he’s already gotten used to the temperatures,” said Blau-Weiß performance diagnostician Bernhard Schimpl with a smile. “We’ll catch up on our vacation in Brazil in the summer,” said Ronivaldo.
His comeback is currently the top priority – and the 34-year-old has given everything a priority during the winter break: he has been working on his return with the Blau-Weiß rehab trainers. “It’s so nice to be back on the pitch. I’m still in a bit of pain, I can’t do everything yet, but that’s completely normal. I want to get back into it fully in the training camp.”
Julian Gölles was in a similarly good mood during the first training session. He, along with Simon Pirkl and Tobias Koch, was one of the kickers who were the first to play with the balls on the pitch. The 24-year-old used the winter break to get married to his Nadine in his native Styria.
New scout about to sign
The blue-whites could also say yes to a new addition in the coming days: As reported, the club is looking for a scout. “We are close to finishing,” reveals sports director Christoph Schösswendter.
In the player sector, Blau-Weiß will probably remain unchanged: “We are monitoring the market, also with a view to summer. If something comes up in the short term, we have the opportunity, but it is not planned.”
