More than 53,000 spectators watched the start of the DHB selection at the home European Championships in the Düsseldorf football arena. There have never been more fans at an indoor handball game.
Germany’s handball players started the home European Championships in front of a world record crowd. 53,586 spectators watched the start of the DHB selection against Switzerland in the Düsseldorf football stadium, as the European Handball Federation (EHF) announced shortly before kick-off. There have never been more fans at an indoor handball game.
To make the sporting spectacle possible, additional stands with a capacity of more than 9,000 seats were built; around 25,000 parts were required. 250 loudspeakers, 50 amplifiers, 500 moving lamps and 30 laser systems created a unique experience.
The old attendance record was from 2014. At that time, 44,189 spectators watched the game between the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Hamburg in the Frankfurt football arena.
