River Plate positioned itself as the most popular club in world footballaccording to records from the year 2023, by surpassing the records of Barcelona from Spain, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich from Germany.
According to the specialized site Transfermarkt, River had an average attendance of 84,567 in the Más Monumental, the largest capacity stadium in South America after the renovations that took place in recent years.
The statistics, replicated on the official site of the “Millonario”, indicate that River was above Barcelona (83,273 spectators at the Camp Nou); Borussia Dortmund (81,312 at Signal Iduna Park) and Bayern Munich (75,003 at the Allianz Arena).
River reported that during the years 2022 and 2023, members and fans filled the Más Monumental for 48 consecutive games, with seats sold out, according to the RiverID system.
Last week, the AFA released a report showing that River leads the table of clubs with the largest number of members in the country. The Núñez club has 350,951, followed by Boca (327,644); Independent (107,094); Racing (91,970); Rosario Central (84,728); San Lorenzo (82,930) and Newell’s (79,239), among others.
Worldwide, River is positioned second, behind Real Madrid of Spain, which has more than 360 thousand members.
