A victory in the Speed Triple in Zauchensee (two Super-Gs, one downhill) or Flachau (night slalom) would be the first in seven years on home soil. The first chance to end the dry spell is the first Super-G of the new year today (10.45 a.m.). The ÖSV’s hopes rest primarily on Cornelia Hütter. “I’ve often managed to get it right in the race after I’ve been somewhere in training,” said Hütter, hoping to be able to flip the switch. In the only downhill training in Zauchensee she was 2.27 seconds behind Federica Brignone.
Top favorite: Brignone has often demonstrated her top form on the beloved snow in Salzburg’s Pongau. After her best training time, she was ecstatic. “It was all easy, I hit the line very well. I love this type of snow, I always enjoy skiing in Austria.” She has already been on the podium seven times (in three disciplines) this year, and the 33-year-old has already won two World Cup races in Zauchensee. Brignone won the alpine combined in 2020, which is no longer part of the program, and a super-G two years ago.
