In contrast to the downhill run, the pipeline from the red-white-red offspring towards the elite also works. On Sunday, 18-year-old Moritz Zudrell will make his World Cup debut.
After victories in Gurgl and Adelboden as well as a fifth place in Madonna di Campiglio, Feller traveled to Wengen in the unusual role of favorite. If the Tyrolean goes one better, he would be the first man in four years to win at least three slaloms in one season. In 2019/20, both the Frenchman Clément Noël and the Swiss Daniel Yule were successful three times. However, no Austrian has won in Wengen since Marcel Hirscher in 2018, and after Feller’s second place in 2019, there has not been another podium finish to celebrate.

The injured Marco Schwarz (winner Madonna, second Gurgl), Michael Matt (third Gurgl) and Dominik Raschner (third Adelboden) were responsible for the four other ÖSV podium places this winter. Black can no longer be there this season, the others already mentioned will be joined in Wengen by Fabio Gstrein, Adrian Pertl, Johannes Strolz, Joshua Sturm and Zudrell.
The young Vorarlberger, whom young coaches describe as a rough diamond with enormous potential, was actually supposed to make his debut in the European Cup this weekend in Berchtesgaden. After finishing first and second in two FIS slaloms in Obdach, Zudrell was ordered to Wengen by ÖSV head coach Marko Pfeifer for the classic. Zudrell only found out about his opportunity on Monday and then cut a good figure during training in St. Anton.
