Once again it was Jarl Magnus Riiber who held off the sensationally strong ÖSV team from taking the lead after jumping in Oberstdorf. The Norwegian star of the Nordic Combined jumped in the compact competition (with fixed time gaps) six seconds ahead of Johannes Lamparter, twelve ahead of Thomas and 17 ahead of Stefan Rettenegger, 22 ahead of Franz-Josef Rehrl and 26 ahead of Martin Fritz. However, Lamparter withdrew from the race during the break before the cross-country skiing.
“I had a wisdom tooth pulled during the Christmas holidays and took an antibiotic. It showed me the limits yesterday, the circulation broke down. That’s why I don’t feel ready,” explained the overall World Cup runner-up and also second on Saturday. He will try to get fit again quickly for Schonach.
Also on Saturday, Riiber (as second at times) prevented the ÖSV from taking the lead multiple times. In the end, the Norse man won ahead of four Austrians. In the women’s category, Riiber’s compatriot Mari Leinan Lund leads. Lisa Hirner was sixth after jumping, but decided against cross-country skiing again due to the after-effects of a gastrointestinal infection.
