Toto Wolff confirmed that he will continue to be the team leader of Mercedes until at least the end of 2026.

The Austrian, who owns 33% of the team, assured that he met with the owner of INEOS, Jim Ratcliffe, and the executive director of Mercedes-Benz, Ola Kallenius, and they agreed to continue on the same path they are on now.

Wolff, 52, took office in 2013 and was one of the architects of Mercedes’ eight consecutive F1 titles, from 2014 to 2021, although in the last three seasons the German brand was surpassed by Red Bull in the constructors’ championship.

“At the end of the day, also as a shareholder, I want the best return on investment. And the best return is winning,” Wolff said.

“I’m not going to hold on to my position if I think someone can do it better than me, and I make sure I have people around me who can tell me otherwise. In the end, the three shareholders decided: Let’s do it again!” win, he added.

In addition, he gave details about the sports aspect: “I’m staying at Mercedes to beat Red Bull with Hamilton. Those who have driven in the simulator have told us that the 2024 car does not look like the car of the last two years. If we give Hamilton a good car that he can trust, he can get back in front of everyone.”

The announcement of the renewal of Wolff’s contract with Mercedes puts an end to rumors about a possible departure of the Austrian from the team, whose cars will have the British Lewis Hamilton and George Russell as drivers in 2024.

The new Mercedes car for the 2024 season will be presented on February 14 at the Silverstone circuit (United Kingdom).
