Many stars come to the memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer. Representatives from two world champion teams from the “Kaiser” have been announced, as have politicians and celebrities.
Greats from politics and sport remember Franz Beckenbauer. In addition to Federal President Walter Steinmeier, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder, numerous companions from many decades will be there to say goodbye to one of Germany’s greatest personalities in a memorial service in the Allianz Arena.
According to the club, Paul Breitner, Günter Netzer, Wolfgang Overath and Rainer Bonhof, among others, are among the 1974 world champions from the Beckenbauer football generation, along with Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß, in the stadium. Former Bayern stars such as Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Michael Ballack and Miroslav Klose will also come to the arena.
Federal President Steinmeier will give a speech
Many former and active trainers also take part. In addition to national coach Julian Nagelsmann, Otto Rehhagel, Hansi Flick, Felix Magath, Erich Ribbeck, Matthias Sammer, Niko Kovac, Horst Köppel and Holger Osieck want to say goodbye, as does Bundesliga record player Charly Körbel.
Of Beckenbauer’s world champions from 1990, Lothar Matthäus, Andreas Brehme, Klaus Augenthaler, Pierre Littbarski, Guido Buchwald, Olaf Thon, Rudi Völler and Karlheinz Riedle have announced their participation. Back then, Beckenbauer led the team as team boss. Delegations from FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, among others, have confirmed their participation from abroad. Celebrities outside of football are also saying goodbye: tennis idol Boris Becker, former ski racers Christian Neureuther and Christa Kinshofer will be there.
Federal President Steinmeier will be one of the selected speakers. According to long-time Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, club president Herbert Hainer will also speak, and possibly Beckenbauer’s long-time companion Uli Hoeneß will also speak. Rummenigge recently said that they don’t want to talk too much so as not to dilute the topic.
Beckenbauer died on January 7th at the age of 78. The last Bundesliga matchday was dedicated to remembering the football “Emperor”.
