Steel Wings Linz AG botched the start of Qualification Round A. In the home game against the 14th team in the regular season. from Celje, Linz suffered a 2:4 defeat.
The guests took the lead in the 4th minute through Mintautiskis. The Steel Wings pushed for the equalizer from halfway through the first period. Shots were 11:7 for the Stahlstadters after the first 20 minutes. The Linzers were only denied a goal.
In the 27th minute it was defender Lorenz Lindner who first delayed cleverly and then scored with his long-range shot to equalize 1-1. The joy about this lasted ten minutes and four seconds before Mintautiskis took advantage of a positional error by Linz with an ideal cross pass to make it 2-1 for the Slovenians.
In the final third, the Linzers went on the attack and were promptly rewarded. Kilian Rappold scored to equalize 2-2 after 36 seconds of play. The young Linz team visually had more of the game, Celje acted calmly and was able to use one of only three shots on goal in this third to take the lead again in the 50th minute. Jure Povse scored ice cold. But things got even worse for Linz: Panasenko scored four minutes later to make the final score 4-2. Linz’s final offensive – like a powerplay before it – was not crowned with success.
