The German table tennis star Timo Boll has won the international tournament in Doha/Qatar. In the final, the 42-year-old record European champion defeated Tomokazu Harimoto from Japan, 22 years his junior, in 4:3 sets.
For Boll it was the first success in the new World Table Tennis (WTT) tournament series, which replaced the World Tour in 2020. On the way to this final, the former world number one beat the two South Koreans Jang Woojin and Lee Sang Su as well as Taiwan’s top talent Lin Yun-Ju.
Above all, the victories against the two world-class players Lin and Harimoto are a sign that Boll is still a serious candidate for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, despite his age and a serious shoulder injury last year. His big goal is to take part in it.
