The victory against Hungary puts the German handball players in high spirits. The semi-finals at the home European Championship beckons.
After the 35:28 win against Hungary, the German handball players are close to reaching the European Championship semi-finals. The team of national coach Alfred Gislason is in second place in Group I with 5:3 points behind France (8:0) and therefore has all the trump cards against its rivals Hungary and Austria (both 4:4).
There are several scenarios to achieve the goal. You could even afford a defeat in the last main round game against Croatia on Wednesday if the competition doesn’t win.
The DHB team reaches the semi-finals if:
– wins against Croatia
– Draws against Croatia, Hungary gets a maximum of one point against France and Austria doesn’t win against Iceland by more than nine goals. If there is a tie on points with Austria and no winner in the direct duel, the better goal difference would speak for the DHB selection
– Draws against Croatia and Hungary wins against France and Austria against Iceland. If there is a tie on points with the rivals, the DHB selection would win the three-way comparison with Hungary and Austria
– loses against Croatia and Hungary also loses against France and Austria against Iceland
– loses against Croatia, Hungary draws against France and Austria loses against Iceland. If there is a tie on points with Hungary, the DHB selection would win the direct comparison
– does not lose by more than nine goals against Croatia, Hungary loses against France and Austria draws against Iceland. If there is a tie on points with Austria and no winner in the direct duel, the better goal difference would speak for the DHB selection
– loses against Croatia and Hungary draws against France and Austria draws against Iceland. If there is a tie on points with both rivals, the DHB selection would win the three-way comparison with Hungary and Austria
