FC Bayern delivered a flop against Bremen. Irritated Munich residents are now waiting for Union Berlin to catch up. Coach Tuchel is also self-critical.
After the loss against Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel sees no automatic mechanism for a sudden increase in performance. “There’s no way it’ll just be turned over,” Tuchel replied before the catch-up game in the Bundesliga against Union Berlin on Wednesday (8:30 p.m.), asking whether the switch could easily be turned over.
Looking at the table, the Munich coach emphasized: “We are very clearly aware of the starting position.” With the catch-up game in hand, FC Bayern is still seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
Tuchel missed “competitive toughness” and “competitive mentality” against Bremen (0-1) and called for greed and enthusiasm. He also criticized himself. “I’m the first to question myself when so little of what I want to stand for as a coach is on the pitch,” he admitted.
Tuchel did not rule out personnel changes, but that was always the crucial question. “Is now the moment when they can prove again that they can do better or is this the moment when a few changes will happen?” he explained and did not want to reveal any further details about the line-up.
