Australian Open: Sinner still unstoppable in Melbourne

Jannik Sinner continues to play outstanding tennis at the Australian Open. Now he faces the greatest possible challenge.

The Italian tennis professional Jannik Sinner made the dream semi-final against Novak Djokovic perfect at the Australian Open.

The 22-year-old won in Melbourne against the Russian Andrej Rublev 6:4, 7:6 (7:5), 6:3 and will now challenge the defending champion from Serbia in the fight for the final on Friday. Djokovic had previously prevailed in four sets against the American Taylor Fritz.

In the quarterfinals against Rublev, Sinner attacked his abdominal muscles several times, but he did not seek treatment. In the tiebreak he turned around a 1:5 deficit and secured the second set. After 2:39 hours he ended the game in his favor and remains in the tournament without losing a set.

Sinner and Djokovic faced each other three times in a very short space of time at the end of last year. At the ATP Finals in Turin, the Italian first won in the group phase, then the Serb won in the final. Sinner prevailed again at the Davis Cup Finals.
