No longer taking part this year are the Steelsharks Traun and the Graz Styrian Bears. Both clubs will instead attack a class lower in Division I.

In addition to the Dragons and the Raiders, the AFC Vienna Vikings, Prague Black Panthers, Thalheim Graz Giants, Salzburg Ducks, Rangers Mödling and the Telfs Patriots are fighting for a place in the play-offs.

With the first match day in mid-March, the AFL starts two weeks earlier than last year. The reason for this is the U20 World Cup from June 20th to July 1st in Edmonton, in which the local U20 national team, which largely consists of AFL players, is taking part. The basic round will therefore – with the exception of a supplementary game between the Salzburg Ducks and the Dragons – be completed on June 15th and with the semi-final duels on June 13th/14th. continued in July. The final, the Austrian Bowl XXXIX, will take place on July 27th.
