Biles, of enormous talent, “With everyone’s eyes on her, she was able to take an extraordinary step and say ‘that’s enough'”explained the New York publication.

Biles was only able to play one of the five finals in the competitions for which she was registered at the Tokyo Games, where she defended the Olympic golds obtained in Rio 2016.

The gymnast decided to resign harassed by her own ghosts so as not to put her integrity at risk, beyond the commitments made, and later confessed that she was the victim of an anxiety disorder known as “twiestis”.

Her courage to admit it publicly opened a debate regarding the pressures to which athletes are subjected, even elite ones, like her and like the Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka, former world number one who put an end to her participation in the round of 16 in the Olympic event in which she had been in charge of lighting the cauldron due to those same pressures.

“I have to do what I think is right for me and focus on my mental health without putting it at risk.”said Biles, 24 years old.

“Sometimes I feel like I have all the weight of the world on me. We are not just entertainment, we are much more than that.”He also said after participating in the balance beam test, the only competition that he finally managed to contest.

Biles was also one of the victims who dared to denounce Larry Nassar, a former doctor for the American gymnastics team sentenced to prison for abusing more than 250 athletes, most of them minors.
