Last week, Austria’s former marathon record holder and current race director Günther Weidlinger acted as “preliminary gymnast” at the sports middle school in Sandl. At the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon, even the youngest ones are stimulated in many ways. Be it the popular Junior Marathon, where there are still places available, as well as the “School is Running” campaign, where there are other ideal competitions for young runners with the new 5000 and the quarter marathon.

Own running route in Donaupark

There is more than just a new location for the Junior Marathon this year. After three years in the Linz-Lissfeld sports park, it will start on the New Railway Bridge for the first time, which is intended to further enhance the event for six to 13-year-olds. 800 more children than before can take part. The little ones get their own running track in the Donaupark.

Thanks to partner Linz AG, a “Family Party” will be taking place at the event site for the first time, which will be organized by the Kuddelmuddel children’s cultural center. There will be many hands-on stations, demonstrations and all sorts of games. “We would like to thank Linz AG for its many years of great support as a partner in the quarter marathon and as a sponsor of children and young people in the junior marathon and the “School is running” campaign,” says LIVA marathon coordinator Wolfgang Scheibner happily.

“School is in session” campaign

Linz AG Holding, which provides energy supply, municipal services and local public transport in and around Upper Austria’s state capital, is also dressing the youngest participants in the running spectacle as part of the “School is running” campaign.

Upper Austrian students from elementary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational schools – or apprentices in training – and from higher vocational and general education schools (up to the Matura) are eligible to take part. You can run in the Generali 5K and the Linz AG Quarter Marathon for free; you only have to pay a processing fee of eight euros per person. For every five participants, one teacher is also entitled to take part under the same conditions. This year too, the young starters will receive a free running shirt from Linz AG (while stocks last).

Next closing date

It’s fast approaching – 72 days before the 22nd Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon, over 6,000 registrations have already been received, which is far from the end of the road. If you would like to take advantage of the cheaper prices for the numerous running competitions, you should not miss the next entry deadline. It ends next Thursday at midnight. All further information can be found in the registration box below and on the internet at linzmarathon.at
