Maradona family presented project to create Diego’s Mausoleum

Maradona family presented project to create Diego’s Mausoleum

However, the deputies decided to postpone the debate until next year, due to some objections generated by the initiative.

“For us it is an honor to constitute the mausoleum for whom it was an enormous source of popular joy”said deputy Juan Manuel Valdés, from the Frente de Todos, when asking, at the end of the legislative session, that the request of Maradona’s family be addressed.

However, he later claimed that a tribute to Maradona “requires greater consensus.”

The letter from the relatives of Maradona, to which Télam had access, proposes the creation of the public park with his name on the riverside property of the Costanera Norte in Buenos Aires.

In this regard, Deputy Cristina García, from the ruling Let’s Go Together bloc, recalled that Law 83 of the City does not allow naming a public space in honor of a person before 10 years have elapsed after his death.

“The temporal distance allows us to have a more objective vision, away from the emotionality that can condition us”, He said.

And I add: “There is no doubt about what Maradona represents, but I cannot ignore the allegations that weigh on him for sexual abuse”.

In this sense, it was also expressed Amanda Martin, of the Left Front-Unity, saying: “We are not endorsing any type of name or business in Costa Salguero”, in reference to the judicial conflict that weighs on the fate of that property, which belongs to the State of the City, but the Buenos Aires Government wants to sell in part.

And then, regarding the complaint of sexual abuse made by Mavys Álvarez, he affirmed: “I am aware that this news has been a blow even for his followers, but the reality cannot be hidden. It is better to face it.”

Manuela Thourte, from UCR-Evolución, argued in turn that Maradona “has not recognized several of his sons or daughters”, which violates “the right to identity of children.”

After these and other objections, the Frente de Todos requested to withdraw the project from the premises, in order to continue the debate next year, since today was the last session of the year.

The order of the heirs of Maradona, in addition, it asks for authorization to “carry out works for the construction of a Mausoleum and Museum dedicated to Diego Armando Maradona” in Costa Salguero.

And it requires that the mausoleum extends for 400 square meters and the museum for another 1,400 square meters.

On the other hand, the note signed by Sebastián Baglietto, who was appointed by the family as the Judicial Administrator of Maradona’s succession, also requests permission to place a monument in honor of Diego in the green space in front of the Río de la Silver.

“The selection and design of the monument in homage to Diego Armando Maradona and the Public Park with his name will arise from the call for a Public Competition of Initiatives and Projects, of an international character”, indicates the note presented today.

On November 25, when the first year of Maradona’s death was completed, the star’s family also sent a first note to legislators in which they anticipated the will to create the “Maradona Memorial.”

From Maradona’s official Instagram account, the heirs published the letter with the caption: “Today, one of your last wishes begins to come true.”

At that time, the intention of the family of “10” was to create “an eternal resting place” that “can be visited and receive the recognition and love of millions of people.”

“A space of free access, of pilgrimage and encounter with nature on the banks of the river”, they recorded.

The Costa Salguero property is going through a controversy regarding its future, since the law that enabled the sale of the place is held back by legal litigation.

In addition, the Legislature recently approved a rule that expands the current uses of the polygon’s land and enables construction at height.
