The International Automobile Federation (FIA) rejected the entry of the team Andretti in Formula 1 starting in 2026, alleging “lack of competitiveness,” according to a statement from the organization.

The letter emphasizes that “our evaluation process has established that the presence of an eleventh team would not, by itself, add value to the Formula 1 World Championship”. The FIA He adds that “the most significant way a new entrant would add value is by being competitive and we do not believe the applicant (Andretti) is a competitive entrant.”

Likewise, he considers that “although the name Andretti brings some recognition to Formula 1 fans, our research indicates that the competition would add value to the brand Andretti and not the other way around.”

In this way, the path that the American motorsport team began last March, when the FIA ​​opened an application process for teams interested in entering the Formula 1 starting in 2026 they would apply.

Andretti competes in IndyCar Series, Indy Lights and Formula E, among other competitions. The team also has a 37.5% stake in the team Walkinshaw Andretti United of the Supercars Championship.

The company, founded in 1993, is chaired by Michael Andretti and Dan Towriss and is headquartered in Indianapolis (United States).

Given the interest of several teams to be part of the Formula 1, On March 1, the ten teams competing in the competition asked the organization to triple the anti-dilution quota, raising it to $600 million for the entry of new teams into the championship.

Previously, the FIA set at US$200 million the registration fee for new teams to compete in the Formula 1 following the Concorde Agreement, which was signed in August 2020 and covers the seasons between 2021 and 2025.

Andretti was not the only team that showed interest in joining motorsport’s premier competition. At the end of September, the Asian team Lky Sun announced its intention to enter the Formula 1 in 2026, after raising financing of one billion dollars.

Unlike Andretti and Lky Sun, The 2026 season will welcome the competition to Audi. On August 26, the German brand belonging to the Volkswagen Group reached an agreement with the World Cup organization to enter the competition as a manufacturer from 2026.
