There had already been speculation in the past about a move from Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. However, the report never seriously made it out of the sphere of rumors.
Now this should be different. Several scene experts (including journalist Adam Cooper, see posting below) reported sources on Thursday that the 39-year-old Brit’s cockpit change could actually come about.
The specialist portal “Motorsport Total” wants information that Hamilton and Ferrari are in advanced negotiations.
Instead of Carlos Sainz?
Hamilton has been driving for Mercedes since 2013. With the Silver Arrows he was crowned world champion six times. He most recently signed a contract with Mercedes for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. It now appears that 2025 could only be an option.

Since Ferrari recently announced the extension of Charles Leclerc’s contract, Hamilton would take Carlos Sainz’s place with the Italians. That would get the driver carousel going. Sainz could therefore be a candidate for Mercedes, Red Bull or even the future Audi entry (2026).
Both Ferrari and Mercedes had not yet made any statements on a possible Hamilton transfer on Thursday morning. According to the BBC, all Mercedes team members will be brought together for a meeting on Thursday afternoon (3pm CET).
