The German handball players really want to go to the Olympic Games. They can count on the loud support of the fans to qualify for Paris.
Germany’s handball players can rely on home advantage in the fight for a ticket to the Olympic Games. The DHB selection will contest its elimination tournament from March 14th to 17th in Hanover, the German Handball Association announced. The opponents are Croatia, Austria and Algeria.
“If we get the chance to organize a qualification in our own country, we will do it, even if it is a challenge so soon after the European Championships,” said DHB CEO Mark Schober and added: “We hope for similar support our team, as we experienced at the European Championships in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Cologne.”
The team of national coach Alfred Gislason, which finished fourth at the home European Championships and narrowly missed direct qualification for Paris, must take at least second place in the tournament. The exact game plan will be published shortly, the DHB said.
Hosts and European champions France, world champions Denmark and continental representatives Argentina, Japan, Egypt and Sweden have already qualified for the Olympic Games.
