The Africa Cup is over for two Bundesliga professionals from Guinea. A Stuttgart player is in the semi-finals.
The Democratic Republic of Congo also made it to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup with the help of Stuttgart Bundesliga striker Silas.
The VfB attacker took the penalty shortly after his substitution, which put his team on the road to victory in a 3-1 (1-1) win against Guinea. Guinea took the lead through Mohamed Bayo in the 20th minute, DR Congo equalized through Chancel Mbemba (27th). Yoane Wissa used the penalty won by Silas to make it 2-1 (65th), before Arthur Masuaku (82nd) made everything clear with a free kick.
Werder Bremen’s Naby Keita and Stuttgart’s top attacker Serhou Guirassy, who came on after 68 minutes, were unable to change Guinea’s quarter-final exit. The two soccer professionals could soon be available to their Bundesliga teams again.
Nigeria had previously become the first team to reach the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Former Leipzig player Ademola Lookman scored the decisive goal in the 41st minute in the 1-0 (1-0) draw against Angola.
