Indoor hockey: German men in the final of the European Championships

With the winning goal in the last minute, the DHB selection moves into the final after beating Belgium 5-4.

Record winners Germany have reached the final of the European Indoor Hockey Championships for the 19th time.

Coach Rein van Eijk’s team won the semi-final thriller against hosts Belgium 5-4 at the European Championships in Leuven and will therefore face Austria or Poland in the final on Sunday (2 p.m.). The goals for the DHB selection, which will compete in the finals without their current senior national players, were scored by Constantin Staib (2), Erik Kleinlein, Adrian Lehmann-Richter and Henrik Mertgens, who scored the winning goal in the last minute.

The German team reached the semi-finals on Saturday morning despite a 5:6 defeat against Switzerland as second in the group behind Austria. The Germans won the group games against Spain (6:2) and Croatia (7:6). There was a 5:5 draw against defending champions Austria.
