Vasiliev praised the Russian women’s biathlon team at the World Cup

On December 11, two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev praised the women’s team for the silver biathlon in the relay at the World Cup in Hochfilzen.

The competition took place earlier that day, with the Russians taking second place. The Russian team included Valeria Vasnetsova, Svetlana Mironova, Ulyana Nigmatullina and Kristina Reztsova.

“The girls are great, with the exception of Mironova and Nigmatullina, who almost shot themselves at the counter, but still managed,” Vasiliev quoted Sport-Express as saying.

According to him, biathlete Vasnetsova went through the first stage well, although she needed additional cartridges to complete the shooting.

At the same time, he spoke of Reztsova as an athlete who “worked wonders” at the last stage.

“The intermediate result is good, but it needs to be consolidated,” Vasiliev told the publication.

As the two-time Olympic champion of the Russian national team noted, Russian athletes have “real chances” in the relay races, therefore, special emphasis should be placed on them at the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing.

“Today’s pedestal is proof of that. But let’s not relax and do not forget that Norwegians, German women and the same French women will definitely get better for the Games in Beijing. And there the Belarusians, who have already shown their fighting efficiency, can also join. Five competitive teams, which are not so easy to fight at the Olympics, ”the former biathlete concluded.

Earlier on Saturday, the former head of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Vladimir Drachev called the silver of the Russian national team in the women’s relay at the World Cup in Hochfilzen (Austria) as a good result.
