For synchronized swimmer Vasiliki Alexandri, the World Swimming Championships in Qatar ended in disappointment. The two-time vice world champion from Fukuoka 2023 only landed in sixth place in the free skating final on Tuesday with 222.8938 points after being the best in the preliminary competition. However, the OSV officially lodged a protest against the result and the ratings. In the technical freestyle, Alexandri only managed sixth place.

Sixth place on Tuesday caused a lack of understanding among the 26-year-old. “I got a penalty on two leg figures. We watched the video and it’s not true, not at all. It’s very clear that I didn’t do that,” said the Greek. “Everyone, even from other countries, saw this and said that it was actually – I would even say – an impudence. That’s why we protested.
Duet results changed after protest
The hope that the protest will be successful is alive. “As we saw the day before in the duet with Italy, who also protested, the results have still changed,” said Alexandri, who was quite satisfied with her performance. “I’m very happy with how I swam.” That was certainly worthy of a medal, they say.
Gold went to Canada’s Jacqueline Simoneau (264.8207) ahead of Greece’s Evangelia Platanioti (253.2833), who took gold in the technical freestyle. Vasiliki Alexandri’s twin sisters Anna-Maria and Eirini-Marina had canceled the duet competitions because of Anna-Maria’s shoulder injury.
