Nations League: German national team meets arch rivals

A real football classic is on the agenda for the German national team in the coming UEFA Nations League season.

The German national soccer team will face arch-rivals from the Netherlands, as well as Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the group phase of the UEFA Nations League in the 2024/2025 season. This was the result of the draw on Thursday evening in Paris.

The competition will award four of the 16 European starting places for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Even if they win the group, the DFB team would still have to make it to a playoff round. A total of 54 national teams take part in the Nations League.

The games on matchday 1 will be played from September 5th to 7th, 2024. The final round for the best teams will take place from June 4th to 8th, 2025.

It is currently unclear who will lead the DFB team through the competition. National coach Julian Nagelsmann’s contract expires after the home European Championship in the summer (June 14th to July 14th). He described the result of the draw as an “interesting group with good games” for his team.
