The time for camouflage and deception is over: at the spring start of the Bundesliga, all facts will be revealed. FC Blau-Weiß Linz and its opening opponent Altach tomorrow (5 p.m.) can’t fool themselves before the first league game in Vorarlberg in the new year anyway, because both clubs have already met in preparation – purely by chance.

Both the Linz team and the team from Ländle were on training camp in Side, Turkey in January – and were also staying in the same “Tui Blue” hotel. “There are a lot of hotels in Turkey, so it’s strange when two clubs from Austria are accommodated in one. Maybe they wanted to get to know us better. We can definitely prove that we were the first to book,” says Blau -White coach Gerald Scheiblehner with a smile. The coach didn’t allow too intensive contact: “We didn’t share rooms, but that wouldn’t have been possible: Altach has big players like Nuhiu or Reiner, they only have space in one room.”
Four teams in the fight to stay in the league
But of course we took advantage of the unique opportunity to see tomorrow’s opening opponent live in friendly matches. However, according to Scheiblehner, there are no secrets anyway: “The times when you could hide something are over. We know what to expect. Altach hasn’t changed its playing system much, the last games against them were always very close.”
The duel with Vorarlberg also means a real key game for Blue-White at the start of spring: the winner of the game would gain some breathing room in the fight to stay in the league. “Realistically speaking, Altach, Blau-Weiß Linz, WSG Tirol and Lustenau are the teams that have to fight for a long time to stay in the league. Unless some team gets off to a great start,” says Scheiblehner.
