The Patriots won the Super Bowl six times with Tom Brady. The Kansas City Chiefs are not yet at the same level as Mahomes, but a German NFL professional believes comparisons are understandable.
German NFL professional Jakob Johnson sees the Kansas City Chiefs winning another Super Bowl on the way to dominating the New England Patriots and thinks comparisons with the Tom Brady era are okay.
If the Chiefs with quarterback Patrick Mahomes win against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on Monday night in Germany (12:30 a.m. CET/RTL and DAZN), it would be the team’s third Super Bowl triumph within five years. Brady won six Super Bowls with the Patriots between 2002 and 2019. Plus the 2021 win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“No one can deny Patrick Mahomes’ genius and ability as a quarterback. He’s proven time and time again for too many years that when the chips fall and he has to do the thing, he’ll make a play and uses his various tools,” Johnson told dpa. “His mobility, his ability to extend attacks and find Travis Kelce, that’s just unbeatable.”
He therefore finds the comparisons with Brady, with whom Johnson played in his first year in the NFL at the New England Patriots, understandable. “It’s reminiscent of TB12, but we’ll see how the journey continues. It’s a huge opportunity for the Chiefs to expand and cement their legacy.”
Johnson from Stuttgart played for the Las Vegas Raiders for the past two years. His future in the NFL is open.
