Schwartzman: “We’ll see how long I can stretch it”

Diego Schwartzman, one of the best Argentine tennis players in recent years, opened the doors to retirement after his defeat against the Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan in it Buenos Aires ATP when pointing “Things are still not happening, we’ll see how long I can stretch it.”

Schwartzman, c.Champion of the Buenos Aires ATP in 2022 and former world number 8, he currently occupies 116th position in the ranking and has not won in the main draw of a tournament for almost four months.

Yesterday it seemed like he was going to return to victory in a match that started very well against the Colombian Daniel Galán, but after the first set Peque’s level collapsed and he ended up falling in three sets.

After the defeat, he declared at a press conference that he does not know how long the situation will be able to last without the results arriving and confessed: “It’s a mixture of sadness and anger. It’s a combination of things that make me do it wrong. “I’m going to see how I am in the next few months, I have very little left in the tank.”

And he continued: “It is very difficult for me when things go wrong in the competition. For me and my team. Every day is a very big effort and now a tour of a month and a half is coming up. To sustain myself mentally day by day with these results is complicated.”

Finally, he analyzed: “At the end of last year I had won good games, even in the top 10, and I was excited to start the year well. Practically, the season for us starts here and losing two years in a row is sad.”

Furthermore, in the last few hours he shared a text on his social networks in which he referred to his current situation: “It is difficult to describe the sporting moment that I am going through. The weeks go by and the answers on the field do not appear. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. to all the people, they don’t know how nice and what it means to feel supported and encouraged as they do at this moment,” he wrote.

“There will always be some negative criticism, but it is part of the sport and it must also be dealt with. Since I was little they taught me to raise my head and keep trying. With humility, hard work, education and respect I am going to continue in that search. And if it doesn’t work out I will be able to look back and be more than satisfied with what I achieved and with the people I always had by my side, who made me a great athlete and are incredible people,” he closed the message.

In this way, the Peque stated that he will be in the ATP 250 tournament in Los Cabos, which will be held starting next Saturday in Mexico.

The outlook is not good for “Peque”, who, due to his low ranking, will have to play the qualification to play in the main draws of ATP tournaments and otherwise will have no other option but to play in Challenger tournaments.
