Tennis player Emma Raducanu won her first Grand Slam tournament at the US Open in mid-September at the age of just 18. This made her the first British woman to win a tournament of this magnitude since Virginia Wade won Wimbledon in 1977.

Emma Raducanu still uses public transport
In an interview with former tennis pro Andrew Castle, the newcomer explains how her parents made sure that she stayed down to earth. At home, tennis is not an issue at all, as one would suspect. The father Ian Raducanu comes from Romania, the mother Renee from China. They both worked in Canada when they met and moved to the UK when Emma was two years old. There she grew up well protected in normal circumstances in cul-de-sac in Bromley.
In an interview, Raducanu reveals that she still uses public transport – even though she has an estimated income potential of around five million euros. “I feel like the same person and do everything I’ve always done. I don’t see why I should change anything,” said the 19-year-old.
Parents also scold her from time to time
The athlete adds: “And I have my parents who gave me a lecture yesterday morning that was tough.” When Castle asked why she was reprimanded, she replied, “I said I was tired!”
Emma Raducanu is nominated for the BBC Sportswoman of the Year award this year. Still, she hopes Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton will take home the award. You haven’t even prepared a speech.
