The German tobogganers impressed again at the double-seater World Cup in Oberhof. The men are also at the forefront – but it’s not enough to win.
Djana Eitberger and Saskia Schirmer won the women’s doubles competition at the Luge World Cup in Oberhof.
With a best time in the second run of 1:25.889 minutes, they relegated the Italians Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer to second place by eight thousandths of a second. Third place went to Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal, who were still leading after the first round with a track record. They were nine thousandths of a second behind and thus lost their World Cup lead to Vötter/Oberhofer. Degenhardt/Rosenthal won the World Cup at the same place a week ago.
Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt and Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz, however, missed out on victory again. On Saturday the World Cup leaders Thomas Steu/Wolfgang Kindl from Austria won again. Thanks to a strong first run, they won by 0.073 seconds ahead of Wendl/Arlt, who showed the best second run. Like last weekend, Orlamünder/Gubitz also made it onto the podium.
“We had set our setup to Reif, which only worked better in the second round,” said Wendl on ZDF. The duo announced a renewed attack on victory for the sprints on Sunday. “We have changed and rebuilt the material, we are on the right track,” said Arlt.
