The German ski racers were also well behind the leaders at the World Cup downhill in Kvitfjell, Norway.
Andreas Sander came in 30th and was the only German starter to collect just one World Cup point. He was 1.30 seconds behind the victorious Swiss Niels Hintermann. Vincent Kriechmayr (+ 0.08 seconds) from Austria came second ahead of Canadian Cameron Alexander (+ 0.19).
“A lot would have been possible today if I look at the times. I lacked the final determination, that annoys me,” said Sander, who has had a disappointing season so far, on ZDF. Simon Jocher (33rd), Romed Baumann (44th), Dominik Schwaiger (50th) and Jacob Schramm (52nd) missed the World Cup points in the penultimate downhill run of the season. At the season finale at the end of March in Saalbach, Austria, there will be no German speed riders at the start of the downhill. The best 25 in the discipline ranking are eligible to start there.
This season’s dominator, the Swiss Marco Odermatt, came seventh (+0.75). The overall World Cup leader therefore missed out on winning the small crystal ball early, even though his closest competitor was not at the start. Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin injured his calf in a fall during training. The 29-year-old is also out of the Super-G on Sunday.
