Porto beat Arsenal in the first leg

Porto and the Gunners faced each other at the Estádio do Dragão stadium for key 1 of the UEFA Champions League – 2023-2024 tournament, and the host team won with a score of 1-0. In the 48th minute of the second half, Galeno scored the goal that gave Porto the victory.

A shot by Galeno hit the post 20 minutes into the first half and Porto lost its chance to take the lead.

Arsenal was much superior in possession of the ball (62%), but it was not enough to take the victory against its rival.

Galen had a great performance. The Porto midfielder scored 1 goal, made 2 correct passes, stole 2 balls and was encouraged to kick 4 times.

Otávio also stood out. The Porto defender was important for rejecting 4 dangerous balls.

A high average of fouls constantly interrupted the development of the game. There were several reprimands: Declan Rice, Francisco Conceição, Jakub Kiwior, Kai Havertz and Nicolás Gonzalez.

Porto’s coach, Sérgio Marceneiro Conceicao, presented a 4-5-1 tactical layout with Diogo Costa in goal; João Mário, Pepe, Otávio and Wendell on the defensive line; Alan Varela, Nicolás Gonzalez, Francisco Conceição, Pepê and Galeno in the middle; and Evanilson in attack.

For its part, Mikel Arteta’s team came out with a 4-3-3 tactical layout with David Raya between the three sticks; Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and Jakub Kiwior in defense; Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz in midfield; and Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli up front.

Serdar Gözübüyük was in charge of supervising the order of play during the match.

Porto comes to the rematch with the hope of getting a place in the Quarterfinals. Next Tuesday, March 12, the second leg will be played.
