Soccer runner-up Sturm Graz will face top French club LOSC Lille in the round of 16 of the Conference League. This was the result of the draw on Friday at UEFA headquarters in Nyon. As a newcomer from the second round, Sturm will play the first leg at home on March 7th, and the second leg will take place on March 14th with the group winners from the Conference League in the north of France. It is still unclear whether the home game will be played in Graz or in the alternative stadium in Klagenfurt.
No defeat yet
Lille is in fourth place in Ligue 1 after 22 rounds, and the French have not suffered a defeat in the Conference League this season. On Thursday, coach Christian Ilzer’s team secured promotion to the round of 16 with a 1-0 win at Slovan Bratislava after the Graz team celebrated a commanding 4-1 win against the Slovakian league leaders in the first leg.
Reaching the quarter-finals would bring in a bonus of one million euros. So far, the Graz team, who moved into the third highest UEFA competition thanks to third place in the Europa League group phase, have earned around seven million euros in the current European Cup season.
