European figure skating champion Alena Kostornaya does not intend to end her career and will remain in sports for another Olympic cycle. On Tuesday, December 14, the athlete announced this on her Instagram.
On Monday, the skater withdrew from the Russian Championship, which will be held in St. Petersburg from 23 to 26 December, due to a fracture in her right hand. The tournament will compete for tickets to the Olympic Games – 2022 in Beijing. Kostornaya was one of the favorites of the competition.
18-year-old student Eteri Tutberidze is the 2020 European champion, the winner of the Grand Prix finals of the 2019/20 season. This season she became the second at the stage in France and the third at the stage in Canada, says the newspaper “Sport-Express”.
Earlier, on September 23, due to health problems, another Russian figure skater, Alexandra Trusova, withdrew from the free program at the stage of the Russian Figure Skating Cup in Syzran.
Prior to that, Trusova won the short program at the Russian Cup stage in Syzran. The 17-year-old figure skater scored 74.53 points. The second was Elizaveta Tuktamysheva – 70.66 points. The top three was closed by Veronika Yametova – 65.49.
