Austria Klagenfurt took the hoped-for important step towards the championship group of the Bundesliga on Sunday. Coach Peter Pacult’s team defeated Blau-Weiß Linz 2-0 (1-0) at home and moved up to fourth place with 33 points.

Aaron Sky Schwarz secured three important points for the Carinthians with his first league brace. Linz coach Gerald Scheiblehner, however, came away empty-handed on his 47th birthday, the blue-whites remain ninth with 19 points.

Both coaches sent their teams onto the field with the same starting eleven as in the previous week, while the guests’ Ronivaldo, who was recently injured, was at least on the bench. Klagenfurt took command, while the Linzers resisted with strong duels. Space compression was the motto, so there was initially little explosive to be seen in the penalty areas.

The biggest upset after half an hour was the loss of Austria goalgetter Sinan Karweina, who sustained a thigh injury without any outside influence. Schwarz came on as a substitute for the German, and the 19-year-old loanee from Rapid needed less than ten minutes to put the Carinthians in front. The teenager benefited – to the annoyance of celebratory Scheiblehner – from a serious mistake by Julian Gölles, who served Black with a cross pass into his own penalty area. He overcame Nicolas Schmid and scored his second Bundesliga goal (39th).

Ronivaldo made his comeback

Scheiblehner reacted at the break and, among other things, brought on Ronivaldo for the hapless Stefan Holiday. However, only dangerous shots from the second row by Conor Noß (51st) and Gölles (62nd) jumped forward.

On the other hand, Black stood out again, who slotted in ice-coldly after an assist from substitute Max Besuschkow (71′) and thus represented Karweina more than worthy.

Shortly before the end, Ronivaldo missed Linz’s best scoring opportunity with a double chance (85th). The Klagenfurt team are about to take part in the championship group for the third time in a row, but the rest of the program is tough: next Sunday the Pacult team will travel to the champions in Salzburg, and a week later there will be a home game against Rapid at the end of the regular season. Blau-Weiß will first play at home against Vienna Austria, then in the 22nd round they will go to the bottom team in Lustenau.
