Blue and White coach Gerald Scheiblehner would probably have imagined his 47th birthday differently: Linz suffered its first defeat of the spring season in the Bundesliga in today’s away game against Austria Klagenfurt (0-2).
A serious individual mistake in the 40th minute put the home team on the road to victory: Blue and White kicker Julian Gölles unmotivatedly played a ball into the center, Aaron Sky Schwarz gambled on this pass and took the lead.
“That cross pass was fatal and shouldn’t happen to me,” said Gölles, making no excuses after the final whistle. But his coach didn’t hold it against the party crasher: “We made life difficult for ourselves with a serious individual mistake. Maybe he made a mistake and thought it was Klagenfurt coach Peter Pacult’s birthday. But I’m not mad at him,” says Scheiblehner.
His team tried everything in the second half to make up the deficit: striker Ronivaldo made his comeback after the break – and immediately gave the guests fresh momentum. First, Conor Noß (49th) narrowly missed the goal with his shot from 20 meters, and Gölles’ long-range shot also went just past Kreuzeck (61st). “The effort was there, the performance was okay. We weren’t efficient enough,” says Scheiblehner. In contrast to Klagenfurt’s black: In the 71st minute, the 19-year-old remained ice cold again after an ideal pass from Max Besuschkow – 0:2.
Even after falling behind by two goals, the Blue-Whites didn’t give up – but they didn’t want to achieve a sense of success: Ronivaldo (85th, 93rd) had great chances to score the next goal, and Mehmet Ibrahimi, who was also substitute, missed in the second half Addition time (94′) was just a bit.
“We beat ourselves”
For Marco Krainz, the defeat was purely self-defeating: “We actually played a good game, but we lacked the power in the crucial moments. We beat ourselves.”
His coach saw it similarly: “Klagenfurt has an experienced team that can get through a game like this. With a bit of luck we could have at least scored a goal. We take the positive things with us, but we have to improve if we get one Want to win.” Ideally in the upcoming home game on Sunday against Vienna Austria.
