French soccer star Paul Pogba has been banned for four years for a doping offense. The Juventus midfielder tested positive for testosterone in August after a Serie A game against Udinese and was shortly afterwards temporarily withdrawn from the match by Italy’s anti-doping agency NADO. The 2018 world champion is threatened with an inglorious end to his career.
According to Sky Sport Italia and the newspaper “La Repubblica”, the anti-doping prosecutor’s request for a four-year ban for the 30-year-old was approved. Pogba had admitted to taking a food supplement whose package leaflet indicated performance-enhancing substances.
His last hope now rests on the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland. According to information from the TV channel Sky Italia, Pogba is determined to appeal to the court in Lausanne.
The Frenchman, who returned to Juventus from Manchester United in 2022, had struggled with multiple injuries and knee surgery before his suspension. That’s why Pogba was hardly used and also missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He wasn’t used in the game against Udine either, but only sat on the bench.
