Max Verstappen climbed into the cockpit of his Red Bull racing car for the first time as world champion. The new Formula 1 champion completed tire tests in Abu Dhabi in golden shoes. The 24-year-old Dutchman did 124 laps with the 18-inch (46 cm) tires for the 2022 season. “It felt good to be back behind the wheel and to get a feel for the new tires. Everything went smoothly.” said Verstappen.
It is still open whether Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes team will object to the World Cup result. The Silver Arrows have until today, in the evening Verstappen will receive the World Cup trophy at a gala in Paris.
Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko hopes that the Silver Arrows will come to terms with the defeat. “We understand the frustration,” admitted the Austrian on the BBC radio program. “But what I don’t understand: you could have pitted. But you didn’t. That was your mistake.”
Meanwhile, Hamilton got another valuable title: The Briton can now officially call himself Sir Lewis. The seven-time world champion was knighted at Windsor Castle by the heir to the throne, Prince Charles. Hamilton was accompanied by his mother during the festive act.
