One of the best German players is returning to the Bundesliga. Dimitrij Ovtcharov’s move is a surprise.
Table tennis star Dimitrij Ovtcharov will play in the German Bundesliga again next season. The TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell announced the signing of the former world number one via Instagram.
The 35-year-old Ovtcharov is currently still playing for TTC Neu-Ulm. After withdrawing from the Bundesliga, the ambitious club is only active in the Champions League. The German international left his long-standing Russian club Fakel Orenburg in 2022 in protest against the Russian attack on Ukraine.
“With the former number one in the world, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Fulda finally wants to attack at the front again in the 24/25 season,” the club wrote on its Instagram page. The tenth-placed team in the current Bundesliga season also signed 19-year-old Kao Cheng-Jui, who most recently defeated the German team with Ovtcharov in the quarter-finals with the Taiwan national team at the World Cup in Busan.
