“The goal is to stay in the league,” said Thomas Silberberger, describing his final mission as Tyrol coach. The 50-year-old will leave the club at the end of the season. “This has been slumbering in me all year. Now I want to create clarity.” He already made the decision during the winter break.
Silberberger ended his playing career at Kufstein, where he seamlessly began as a coach. In 2013 he joined WSG Wattens, as the club was called at the time. From the Regionalliga West via the 2nd league, promotion to the Bundesliga was achieved in 2019. In a one-two with sports manager Stefan Köck, he made a lot of the opportunities, but the response from Tyrolean football fans remained low.
Silberberger’s departure will not be the only change: the club is likely to enter into a partnership with an investor. The official announcement is still pending.
