The former number one in the world rankings won in the Californian desert against Croatian Petra Martic 6:3, 6:4. Next, the 36-year-old Kerber will face tenth-seeded Latvian Jeļena Ostapenko. “It’s great, it feels so good to be here again and play in front of you and give everything I have,” said Kerber after her game on Center Court. “I tried to move well and hitting the ball into the field. It’s not that easy without a lot of match practice, I try to stay here as long as possible and get as many matches as possible.”
