The Black Wings show heart

This fate leaves one stunned. Three-year-old Paul from Steyr has leukemia and is therefore dependent on a life-saving stem cell donation. In the summer of this year a suitable donor was found, Paul seemed to finally get on the road to victory in the fight against his terrible illness. A few days ago, however, the Steinbach Black Wings received sad news: Against all hopes and expectations, Paul’s body had unfortunately not accepted the donation, the search for a donor has to start all over again.

The Linz ICE Hockey League Club shows its heart and is putting its home game tomorrow (7.15 p.m.) against HC Bozen Südtirol, which fans can again attend in compliance with the 2G rule, at the service of a good cause. Before and during the game there is the option of having a completely painless and free cheek swab typed. It would be wonderful if someone could be found who could become a lifesaver for little Paul.

The Black Wings are setting a good example: All players, supervisors and employees can be typed before the opening bully. Healthy people who are between 17 and 45 years old and weigh at least 50 kilograms are eligible for a smear.

Longing for a sense of achievement

What is sporty doing? After five defeats in a row (without winning points), the Black Wings have long since had their backs to the wall, the bottom of the pack urgently needs victories in order not to have to put their play-off ambitions aside at an early stage. HC Bozen appears with coach Greg Ireland, the man with whom Linz also negotiated before coach Raimo Summanen was engaged. Ireland, who is also the Italian team boss, decided to return to the “Foxes”, which he had led to the final of the ICE Hockey League in the past season. Then they parted ways (temporarily) because financially they could not agree on a new contract. Now the differences have been settled.

The Black Wings are missing today Andreas Kristler, who is hoping for a comeback after a shoulder injury, and Andris Dzerins. The latter is with the Latvian national team, which is preparing for the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022. On Sunday (5.30 p.m.) in the next home game against Dornbirn, Dzerins will be available again.

“We know that we can keep up with Bolzano,” said Linz striker Rafael Rotter confidently: “But it is also clear that it will be brutally difficult. The South Tyroleans have a strong offensive. It is important to eliminate these as well as possible and to use the chances to score ice cold. ”For head coach Summanen, the key to success lies above all in the discipline. “We absolutely have to stay away from the penalty box. The unnecessary penalties keep us in distress. If we succeed in that, I am very optimistic ”.

A 2G proof is required for access to the hall. For this purpose, the standing areas are closed, only seats may be used. It is compulsory to wear an FFP2 protective mask and the consumption of food and drinks is only allowed at the assigned seat. As before, our standing room season ticket holders will receive a seat ticket that can be picked up at the ticket offices of the Linz-AG-Eisarena.

With the viewer’s permission, the codes sent to the season ticket holders for the live stream also lose their validity. (Alex)
