Leon Draisaitl scores in the shootout, but still loses to the Buffalo Sabers with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers with German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl suffered their second defeat in a row in the NHL. At the Buffalo Sabers with Draisaitl’s national team colleague JJ Peterka, the Oilers lost 2:3 after a penalty shootout after a 2-0 lead.
After just 29 seconds, Draisaitl contributed to Ryan MacLeod’s quick 1-0 with his 50th goal of the season. Warren Foegele (15th) increased for Edmonton in the first third when they were outnumbered. Tage Thompson (16th) made the quick connection, Jacob Bryson (52nd) equalized for Buffalo in the final period. According to video evidence, the Sabres’ supposed winning goal by Owen Power two seconds before the end of overtime did not count. In the penalty shootout, Draisaitl was the only one of the three guest shooters to score.
However, the Oilers took a point with the draw after regular time and, unlike Buffalo, have a good chance of being back in the playoffs.
