Decathlete Leo Neugebauer has set the next German record – this time indoors.
The German decathlete Leo Neugebauer has improved Frank Busemann’s 22-year-old national indoor record in the heptathlon. At the college championships in Boston, Neugebauer, who was studying in Texas, achieved 6,347 points. The Olympic silver medalist Busemann collected 6,291 points in February 2002.
Last year, Neugebauer beat Jürgen Hingsen’s German record in the decathlon, and at the following World Cup the 23-year-old from VfB Stuttgart took fifth place. Neugebauer is one of the German athletics hopes at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. He will not start at the European Championships in Rome at the beginning of June.
